The Airush Diamond 2016 features a refined profile and balanced configuration that appeals to a broad range of users – from performance freestylers to wave riders – while still being stable and user friendly enough for intermediate riders.
The unique shape is light on the bar with a short bar throw, so that even the lightest of riders can easily get the kite to the edge of the window in stronger conditions. For 2017 the updated V3.2 bridle configuration features reduced bridle length without compromising on turning and depower.
The Diamond Series kite features Technoforce D2 by Teijin in conjunction with the Dyneema load frame, giving any female rider an insanely durable kite that will last them several seasons.
What were the challenges of designing a female specific kite?
The challenges of designing a female specific kite, we had to try and search for a lot of feedback from riders and see what they prefer and want from a kite. Besides the obvious of being lighter weight and having slightly shorter arms than men, we found women didn’t want such solid "parked power" and preferred something a bit more forgiving.
What makes the Diamond Kite a female specific kite?
The Diamond kite is specifically designed for female, having a super light bar pressure and a short bar throw. The difference between the Diamond and say a Lithium is once you move the bar 25cm away from the rider, she gets full depower. Where as a Lithium will still have about 70% of its power and need the bar around 45cm away from the rider to achieve full depower. Also as female riders are usually lighter, a strong parked power actually makes it harder for riders to hold a solid edge. Having a kite that sits a bit further forward allows for easier upwind ability especially in overpowered conditions.
How did you achieve a shorter bar throw with the same safety range?
It was quite a mission to be able to achieve short bar throw with lots of depower and also to have light bar pressure together at the same time. The whole concept of those three things actually contradict each other, so we had to work a lot on the shape of the kite, getting the ratio between the chord length of the wing tip and the centre chord ratio just right to work with the position of the bridles on the LE. We also tried plenty of shorter bridle options but found this drastically reduced the amount of depower and increased the bar pressure, which went against our design goals.
How does the Diamond compare to the Lithium and Varial X?
The Diamond fits in our range in between the Lithium and Varial X, but more towards the Varial X. We took a lot of influence from this kite but with the short bar throw, more depower and lighter bar pressure.
